Revered Source Recommends Toyota Camry

Posted January 12, 2012

When reading reviews for new Toyota models and other vehicles, you want to know that they are objectively written and candid, right? Well, Lakeland Toyota thinks that is exactly what you deserve. Consumer Reports is the perfect source for this kind of criticism and here is why.

For one, the revered magazine has a trustworthy reputation and makes it a principal goal to be consumers one and only source for vehicle reviews. But behind these admittedly subjective qualities there also rests a few hard facts that even the most skeptical readers can't ignore: Consumer Reports does not accept any form of advertising dollars nor do they receive any special treatment from the makers they are testing. Yep, that's right. The magazine buys each reviewed vehicle anonymously so that they are examining the exact same models that those in the Sheboygan area and beyond could be driving.

At this point you may be wondering where Lakeland Toyota is going with all this information. Mostly we just want you to understand that we aren't kidding around in saying that Consumer Reports recommends the 2012 Toyota Camry. After extensive testing, the magazine gave the new variant of the beloved sedan a big thumbs-up. We believe this has something to do with the model's increased fuel-economy, improved performance and roomy interior...but that's for you to decide. If you'd like to scrutinize the Toyota Camry for yourself then by all means, be our guest. Simply swing by Lakeland Toyota at 4000 N. Frontage Rd. Sheboygan, WI 53081 or contact us online in advance.

Kelley Blue Book Notes Toyota Vehicle Value

Posted January 12, 2012

Many automakers focus on putting out highly innovative models that leave an excellent impression upon first use; Toyota is no exception. But our favorite automaker does more than just elicit initial "oohs" and "aahs," it strives to produce models that retain their extraordinary value throughout the years of use. We're guessing that's why respected vehicle valuation company, Kelley Blue Book (KBB), chose Toyota as the top contender in its website's "2012 Best Resale Value Awards."

Every year KBB determines which makes and models do the best job at keeping their value over the first five years of ownership. Not only did Toyota grab a win for its brand in general, but the company received extra accolades for some of its specific models in particular. The Toyota Tacoma, Toyota Camry and Toyota FJ Cruiser, all were named Best Resale Value in their own vehicle categories.

Bob Carter, Group VP and General Manager, says, "Winning the top brand in the Kelley Blue Book Best Resale Value Awards is a very significant honor as it reflects Toyota's commitment to quality, dependability and reliability, which ultimately adds up to great value."1 Carter also ensured that the automaker will continue to delivers such standards for many years to come.

If you're looking for a model that will stick with you over time, Lakeland Toyota invites you to drop by 4000 N. Frontage Rd. Sheboygan, WI 53081 and check out our entire new Toyota lineup!

Intel and Toyota Partner Up to Improve Systems

Posted January 12, 2012

Since the integration of the radio into the driving experience, consumers have shown a constant demand for more advanced entertainment and information systems. It seems as though simply cruising down the highway and listening to the hum of the engine just isn't enough. Lakeland Toyota understands though. In a highly-demanding digital world, constant connectivity is often vital. In order to cater to this ever-growing need, Toyota has made a tech-savvy move.

In mid-November, the automaker decided to stay ahead of the game and sign a "memorandum of understanding"1 with information company Intel. Together, the two innovative companies will embark on in-vehicle information system research. The goal will be to improve methods of communication to drivers both with on-board and nearby systems. For example, one potential result could be a program that allows drivers to access real-time updates on traffic patterns, destination searches, and infrastructure like traffic lights. Future Toyota drivers may also be able to take advantage of radar cruise control and other driving support functions while keeping both hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

Advanced safety and connectivity? Sounds like a fantastic combination to us! To learn more about ground-breaking Toyota initiatives, feel free to contact Lakeland Toyota online or drop by 4000 N. Frontage Rd. Sheboygan, WI 53081 and talk with us in person. Of course, there's no better way to get a better handle on the brand then to check out our complete new Toyota lineup. You're more than welcome to test-drive any vehicle you see.

Toyota and Facebook Give Fans a Feel for the Ft-86

Posted January 12, 2012

How much time a day do we spend on Facebook? Let's be honest, a lot. Now, thanks to Toyota, that number will most likely go up. The automaker a new Facebook game that allows you to get behind the wheel of the upcoming, highly anticipated FT-86. As an entertaining activity and innovative marketing tool, Social Network Racer is anything but a waste of time.

Based on the FT-86 II concept, the game allows users to race through a virtual course and test out the new Toyota model's thrilling speed. Here's the interesting part. The course is no average, computer-designed pseudo-reality. It's your own reality. Drawing from either your Facebook profile or that of your friends', the racing environment is highly customized to your digital social life (i.e. billboards with your best friend's most recent status or buildings covered by your profile picture). At the end of the race, users can see where they rank among FT-86 "drivers" worldwide.

While the new Toyota game doesn't reveal any FT-86 design details, we at Lakeland Toyota do know that it has been redesigned with an exterior styled more towards younger consumers. After the release of several concept models, we also know that we are more than antsy to finally see the real thing. There is a good chance most Toyota fans would agree with us on that one, which is why we will be sure to let you know as soon as the FT-86 arrives at Lakeland Toyota, 4000 N. Frontage Rd. Sheboygan, WI 53081.

In the meantime, feel free to contact us with questions. Also, you are always welcome to test drive any of the other new Honda models that we have in stock!

Toyota and Hollywood Honor Environmental Leaders

Posted January 12, 2012

Automakers show their environmental awareness in many ways. Recently, Toyota used a rather unique channel to get the green message out. In addition to producing new hybrid models and researching innovative fuel alternatives, Toyota has stepped across the auto industry boundary into Hollywood. No, you won't be seeing Toyota produced films or Aiko Toyoda starring in a TV show anytime soon. Rather the automaker decided once again to act as the presenting sponsor of the Environmental Media Awards (EMA).

Now in its 21st year, the awards show is unlike any other Hollywood glitz and glam event. Instead of honoring acting skills or offering accolades for the best costume design, the EMA recognizes film and television productions that effectively spread positive environmental messages in highly influential ways. This year the line-up included the following:

Television

-          The Good Wife
-          Nurse Jackie
-          CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (winner)
-          The Biggest Loser
-          Futurama (winner)

Film

-          Yogi Bear (winner)
-          Disneynature African Cats
-          The Other Guys

While the influential pro-green productions certainly held the EMA spotlight, Lakeland Toyota would like to honor a few other stars that showed up as well. The all-new Toyota Prius v along with the 2012 Toyota Camry hybrid and 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-In lit up the stage brilliantly. Celebs and attendees got a sneak peek of the models throughout the red-carpet affair.

Lakeland Toyota can't provide everyone with Hollywood awards. However, we would like to take a minute to thank all those loyal Toyota fans out there who are helping to increase environmental awareness. We think you deserve more than just 15-minutes of fame. That is why we are happy to provide you with VIP service for any new Toyota or used car you may have.

Toyota Puts Out All-New 2012 Prius v

Posted January 12, 2012

Lakeland Toyota serving the Sheboygan area is looking forward to the new family of Toyota Prius models lined up for 2012. A wagon version of the original Prius, the Prius v is larger, quieter, and more eco-friendly with a range of over 500 miles on one charge and a fuel economy rating of 44 mpg city, 40 mpg highway.

Starting with the interior, the new Prius v boasts a total of 34.3 cubic feet with the second row pushed pack and a nearly doubled total of 67.3 cubic feet with the 60/40 rear seats folded down. With all that space it's no wonder the "v" stands for "versatility."

To encourage two-handed driving, the Prius v also features Toyota's brand new Entune system. If you haven't yet heard of it, Entune allows drivers to operate things like music and cellphone by conversational voice command.

Getting down deeper, the new Toyota model contains an 80 horsepower gas powerplant with support from two electric motors that bring it up to 134 horses and 153 pound-feet of torque. A slight electric spin during acceleration give the Prius v a futuristic feel and a beltless engine means that when the 1.8-liter engine kicks in, every bit of gas goes straight towards driving the car. The five-seated wagon is also complete with four driving modes - Standard, Eco, EV and Power - and includes a start/stop technology and an electric water pump and air conditioner.

Coming in at a starting price of $27,160 before tax incentives, there is a good chance the 2012 Prius v could be your next ride for around $20,000. Stay tuned because the new Toyota model is expected arrive at Lakeland Toyota 4000 N. Frontage Rd. Sheboygan, WI, soon. In the meantime, feel free to contact us with any Toyota-related questions you may have.

Thanks to Robots, 2012 Toyota Camry Sees Price Cut

Posted January 12, 2012

Toyota drivers rejoice because Lakeland Toyota is excited to announce that the 2012 Toyota Camry will see a mentionable price cut, a feat rarely seen in the auto industry. The reason behind such a welcomed bit of news is that robots, that's right, robots, are taking over Camry production.

Where does one find an ample supply of cyborgs? For Toyota it was easy - the automaker had only to reprogram those previously employed in the NUMMI (New United Motor Manufacturing Inc.) plant with which Toyota was once connected. It's a good thing the robots were recycled because the 2012 Camry cost-drop is at an average of two percent; We don't know about you, but Lakeland Toyota thinks these machines deserve a pat on their hard-working metal backs.

While feature-wise not a whole lot has changed in next year's Camry model, there are some notable improvements. The seventh generation of America's most popular family sedan displays a sharper exterior look with a more aggressive front grille and side profile as well as slightly more angular lines around the body.

Powertrain developments for the 2012 Toyota Camry offer commanding 2.5-liter four-cylinder and a 268-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engines. Combined with a six-speed automatic transmission they deliver a far better fuel economy. The four-cylinder returns an estimated 35 highway mpg. The V6 achieves 30 mpg with almost 100 more horses!

The Camry is by no means labeled a "sporty vehicle," however significant suspension improvements and added paddle shifters (on the SE model) imbue the sedan with slightly more enthusiasm. "Although fully redesigned, the 2012 Toyota Camry plays it safe with styling revision that make it look a little tougher, and suspension upgrades that make it a little livelier,"1 praises Edmunds.

Whether you are anxiously awaiting the 2012 Camry or a fan of any other new Toyota models, feel free to contact us with any questions. And, maker sure to stay tuned. Lakeland Toyota located at 4000 N. Frontage Rd. Sheboygan, WI is dedicated to keeping you informed.

Bear Steals Toyota Prius

Posted January 12, 2012

It's bad enough that we have to worry about human car thieves taking away our vehicles, but when mother nature starts to get involved, maybe we should just give up and start riding bicycles.

A Toyota Prius, much like the ones available at Lakeland Toyota in Sheboygan, WI, was broken into at a Lake Tahoe cabin home by a curious black bear. The McCarthy's, owners of the Prius, called for help by contacting the sheriff's department, but as soon as their call ended, the car was gone.

Assuming the bear knocked their Prius into neutral, or released an emergency brake, the car rolled 80 ft down the driveway, across the street, and only stopped after it knocked into the neighbor's deck. Once recovered, the car was empty. Looks like this black bear will be charged with a hit and run, or at least for leaving the scene of an accident.

"The direction-selector gear shift lever had been ripped completely out of the dashboard," Mrs. McCarthy said. "Every recognizable piece of the interior" had been ripped out--although it was undamaged on the outside."1

Maybe future Prius models should come with an anti-bear warning device.

Toyota Adds More Standard Equipment to 2012 Yaris

Posted January 12, 2012

The second-generation Toyota Yaris features a complete redesign. Toyota has thus far remained relatively conservative with the release of official U.S. press photographs or details regarding the powertrain

Toyota's official pricing announcement that was released on August 5 states, "Yaris will continue to be an excellent value with more than $1,000 of additional standard equipment."1

While Toyota hasn't yet divulged complete details on exactly what all of those additions will be; the Japanese automaker has shared that pricing for the next-gen Yaris will be similar to that of the 2011 Toyota Yaris Convenience Package. This leads us to believe some of the features defining the add-on package (i.e., convenient split-folding rear seat, CD player, and larger windshield washer fluid tank) might just become standard fare.

While for the time being, this is all purely speculation, we're certain drivers familiar with just how minimalistic the current 2011 Toyota Yaris model is, would find such additions most welcome. And, amid all of Toyota's reported, yet largely mysterious, changes to the 2012 Toyota Yaris, you can rest assured the next-generation model will continue to be engineered with the Toyota Star Safety System.

Be sure to stay tuned to learn more. Lakeland Toyota located at 4000 N. Frontage Rd, promises you'll be among the first we tell, when more details surrounding the next-generation Toyota Yaris become available.

Redesigned Toyota Tacoma Coming this October

Posted January 12, 2012

Toyota promises to indulge drivers in a lot of new and redesigned vehicles this year. Among the many models undergoing a facelift for the 2012 model year is the Toyota Tacoma expected to hit Lakeland Toyota's showroom floors, this November.

Primarily superficial, Toyota's updates to the 2012 Tacoma will not impact the pickup's powertrain. Rather, changes are being made solely to the exterior- and interior design languages and the entertainment system.

If you're interested in learning more about the redesigned Toyota Tacoma, be sure to stay tune. Lakeland Toyota, serving the greater Sheboygan, WI area, promises more details as we approach the pickup's official launch.

In the mean time, we invite you to explore the outgoing 2011 Toyota Tacoma. Considered the best-selling pickup in America, it's available in four different body types; and delivers six standard airbags, Star safety system, and fuel economy of up to 21 mpg city/25 mpg hwy.

Speaking on the critical role the Tacoma plays in Toyota's overall vehicle lineup, Bob Carter, Group VP and Brand Manager, Toyota says, "It's an important segment for us because it provides us with young customers."1  While two American competitors have stopped investing in the compact pickup segment, Carter contends it may experience a strong comeback if oil and gas prices continue to climb. In fact, the Japanese automaker reports that from January-June 2011, they sold more Tacoma pickups than they did larger, full-sized Tundra pickups.

New Toyota Yaris Hitting Showroom Floors

Posted January 12, 2012

Last winter, Toyota unveiled the next-generation Yaris in Japan, but there was little talk of when it might hit showroom floors until recently.

Don Esmond, Senior Vice President Automotive Operations, Toyota, confirmed on July 1 that the revitalized Yaris will be in dealerships (i.e., Lakeland Toyota in Sheboygan,) "by the end of the year."1 The automaker's ultimate plan for the Yaris is to bring it up to snuff with the subcompact segment's best-sellers... a very savvy move, considering American consumers are steadfast shifting their loyalty to compact and subcompact cars.

While few details surrounding the revised next-generation Toyota Yaris have been released at this time, it is expected to be of similar platform and hold the same engines as its predecessor. The changes Toyota will implement will be primarily to the body, the interior, and possibly some of the car's key features and capabilities.

In Japan, where the Yaris is known as the Vitz, Toyota is also expected to add a hybrid-electric variant. It's possible they'll decide to do the same in the U.S., but, that remains to be seen.

If you're interested in learning more about forthcoming next-generation Yaris, stay tuned. To learn more about the current 2011 Toyota Yaris, available now at Lakeland Toyota, please contact us today. Or visit us in person at 4000 N. Frontage Rd. in Sheboygan, WI. We're happy to share specs, compare models, and arrange test drives.

Toyota Greens up with 17,000 Solar Panels

Posted January 12, 2012

After receiving approval from local authorities, Toyota will move forward with its' plan to install 17,000 solar panels in Derbyshire, England. The Japanese automaker has already begun to make room for the impressive $16,450,785 solar farm on a 90,000-square-meter (~986,751 square feet) plot of industrial land.

"Generating solar power on-site to supply electricity to the plant underlines our commitment to do even more to further reduce our carbon footprint and is yet another example of our environmental leadership,"1 says Tony Walker, Deputy Managing Director, Toyota Manufacturing UK.

The Japanese automaker will allegedly be the first car manufacturer in the UK to install such a large-scale array of solar panels. As you might expect, they're not taking the undertaking lightly. Toyota estimates that the facility's 17,000-solar-panel array will supply enough energy to produce 7,000 cars per year! That amount to 2,000 tons per year reduction in the plant's carbon foot print!

British Gas is responsible for the fitting and installation of Toyota's major UK solar-panel project. Since being given the green-light, British Gas is working fast and furious to get all 17,000 solar panels in place, before the government's proposed cuts to feed-in tariffs for large arrays. The panels are expected to begin supplying power to the Derbyshire plant as soon as July.

Attn: 2001-2003 Model-Year Toyota Prius Drivers

Posted January 12, 2012

We could blog only about Toyota safety innovations, green initiatives, new models, concept cars and generous giving. But, that's not what we've promised to do. We didn't ever say we'd give you half of the story. We said we'd keep you informed.

In an effort to replace the electric power steering shaft and attachment nuts on Prius models made between 2001 and 2003, Toyota announced a voluntary safety recall, early this month. The recall applies to a total of 100,000 units worldwide - 52,000 units in the U.S. alone.

Toyota recommends drivers of 2001-2003 model-year Prii to pay special attention to the fluidity of their steering wheel. If it's been turned to the full-lock position with any regularity, there's a possibility the nuts securing the pinion shaft in the steering gear box assembly have loosened.

What does this mean? Nothing too serious, thankfully. Basically, what happens is that over time drivers operating a Prius model in which the nuts have loosened will notice that left-hand turns require increased effort.

Whether or not you're experiencing stiffness when you turn left, Lakeland Toyota, located at 4000 N. Frontage Rd in Sheboygan, WI recommends 2001-2003 model-year Prius drivers contact us to schedule an appointment today...even if it doesn't seem necessary, now. Think of it as a preemptive strike.

The voluntary recall service will, of course, be performed free of charge. And, to help you plan accordingly; The service should take approximately four hours to complete. Lakeland Toyota apologizes in advance for the inconvenience this may cause you.

Toyota is expected to send 2001-2003 model-year Prius drivers an official notification letter via first-class, early in July. You can find complete details and specifications surrounding the recall there. If you should have any question, don't hesitate to ask. The [Dealer Name] service department serving the greater [Geo] area is here to help make this experience as transparent and hassle-free as possible.

Toyota Becomes World's Most Valuable Car Brand

Posted January 12, 2012

Millward Brown, a company which assesses organizations within different industries, recently named Toyota as the World's Most Valuable Brand.  Leaders are selected based on customer perceptions collected via interviews with one-million-plus consumers worldwide as well as careful analysis of the companies' financial and business data.

News of Toyota's overhaul of BMW in Millward and Brown's BrandZ survey is a huge milestone, not only for the new champion, but the auto industry as a whole. The survey shows Toyota's brand-value performance to be quite impressive, jumping 11 percentage points this year alone with the final calculation resting at $24.2 billion. And, if you're been watching gas-station marquees recently, you can probably guess which vehicle Millward Brown points to as being responsible for this profound increase... none other than the Prius.

Toyota Pays Workers to Build Homes

Posted January 12, 2012

As you may or may not be aware, the Toyota Tundra facility in San Antonio, Texas has been hit particularly hard by parts shortages in the wake of the March 11th quake-tsunami disaster. Unfortunately, there are simply not enough parts to maintain normal levels of operations at the plant. As such, Toyota has been forced to shut down operations on Mondays and Fridays and cut production in half Tuesday through Thursday.

Ordinarily, this would be devastating news; the facility employs nearly 3,000 workers. But, unlike so much news, this story has an unusual twist that will make you sit back in your chair and smile. Rather, than dock employees' wages to match the facilities new hours of operation, Toyota is planning to pay its employees - even while the plant is down. The only caveat is that they must sign up either for further training or to build homes for Habitat for Humanity. If Toyota workers don't feel like committing to further training or building homes for Habitat for Humanity, they will simply take unpaid leave.

Stay tuned for more Toyota news, coming soon. Lakeland Toyota, located at 4000 N. Frontage Rd. in Sheboygan, WA is dedicated to keeping you informed on everything from leading-edge technology developments to new Toyota car debuts... to human interest stories.

Toyota Partners with Microsoft to Improve EV

Posted January 12, 2012

Toyota and Microsoft are partnering to create an in-car electronics system designed to aid the efficiency of the Japanese automaker's battery-powered vehicles. In accordance with the agreement, both market leviathans will invest one-million yen ($11.7 billion) into a Toyota subsidiary that will provide data services for drivers.

Toyota and Microsoft indicate the forthcoming system will incorporate a suite of telematics services, including: data, navigation, in-car entertainment, and multimedia. Powered by Window's Azure cloud computing platform, the system may also be used to manage energy usage in vehicles. Toyota alleges that by using heating and cooling functions more efficiently, the new in-car system can improve not only the range of hybrid and electric cars but also their fuel economy.

Speaking on the company's new alliance, Akio Toyoda, President, Toyota Motor Company said, "This new partnership between Microsoft and Toyota is an important step in developing greater future mobility and energy management for consumers around the world. Creating these more efficient, more environmentally advanced products will be our contribution to society. To achieve this, it is important to develop a new link between vehicles, people and smart center energy-management systems."1

Steve Ballmer, CEO, Microsoft said, "...Our partnership with TMC [Toyota Motor Company] is a great example of how we continue to invest in the automotive industry and of our commitment to power the services that are important to consumers. It further validates the power of the cloud, as the Windows Azure platform will provide the enterprise-grade, scalable platform that TMC needs to deliver telematics in its automobiles worldwide."2

While Toyota will initially deploy the new Microsoft-powered telematics system in its 2012 fleet of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. We expect to see the system available in all Toyota models across the globe by 2015.

Toyota Prius Sales in the U.S. Hit One Million!

Posted January 12, 2012

April 5, 2011 marks a momentous day for the Toyota Prius, on two important accounts. Not only does it mark the date when U.S. sales of the Prius hit one million. It also represents the hybrids' third significant sales milestone in six months.

The Toyota Prius hit its first major sales milestone back in October 2010, when worldwide sales topped two-million. It hit its second just last month, when global sales hit three million. That's an increase of over one-million units in half a year! Needless to say, while Lakeland Toyota is happy to report that the one-millionth Prius has been sold in the U.S., we're not in the least surprised.

Speaking on the tremendous success of the Toyota Prius, Bob Carter, Group Vice President and Manager, Toyota Division said, "Since the [Toyota] Prius went on sale eleven years ago, not a year has gone by when it hasn't been the number-one selling hybrid vehicle in the U.S."1

Carter continued, "Prius has become synonymous with the word hybrid and as we see fuel prices starting to rise again, it has accounted for more than 60 percent of hybrid passenger car sales so far this year. Prius paved the way for hybrids and while it is still the hybrid leader in sales and fuel economy, I'm proud to say that since its introduction, 13 other auto brands have seen the benefits of hybrid technology and joined the hybrid market."2

Toyota Prius Fast Facts

-          Third-generation Prius topped EPA's list of the Most Fuel Efficient Vehicles for 2011
-          Named Best Overall Value of the Year by IntelliChoice, for nine consecutive years
-          Highest owner loyalty of any mid-size vehicle for the last five years, according to R.L. Polk
-          More than 97 percent of Prii sold since 2000 are still on the road
-          Since 2000, the Prius, when compared to the standard car, has saved American drivers over 881 million gallons of gasoline, $2.19 billion in fuel costs, and 12.4 million tons of CO emissions

As you can see, the original Toyota Prius model has enjoyed a very successful life. And, while we expect that success to continue, Toyota is mixing things up a bit, growing their lineup to include the Prius v , Prius c compact hybrid and Prius Plug-In Hybrid. With over 50-percent more interior cargo space than the current Prius, the Prius, v will be available, starting as soon as the third quarter of 2011.

If you have any questions about the current Prius or forthcoming Prii models, please contact Lakeland Toyota today. Or, visit us in person. We're conveniently located at 4000 N. Frontage Rd. in Sheboygan, WI.

Toyota Named 2011 Best Passenger Car Value

Posted January 12, 2012

Chalk up another award for Toyota. Vincentric, a firm that focuses on measuring value in the automotive industry, recently presented the Japanese automaker with the prestigious title of "Best Passenger Car Value for 2011".

To pass the Vincentric test, Toyota had to prove its superiority over competitors in eight key areas: depreciation, insurance, repairs, maintenance, fuel economy, opportunity cost (the cost of having your money in a vehicle rather than appreciating investment), and fees + taxes. According to Vincentric, Toyota continues to have lower-than-expected ownership cost in all eight of the firm's cost categories and maintains a particularly low depreciation rate.

Typically, Vincentric assesses vehicles in each of the aforementioned categories every five years, for annual mileages of 10,000, 15,000, or 20,000. Judging by Toyota's dedication to continuously improving value, we're confident they'll snag the title next time around as well.

currently, there are many vehicles in Toyota's value-driven lineup to satisfy a wide range of style, performance and price preferences. Among the vehicles featured in the 2011 lineup are the Yaris, Corolla, Camry (and Camry Hybrid), Matrix, Prius, Avalon, Sienna, Tacoma, Tundra, RAV 4, Venza, Highlander (and Highlander Hybrid), FJ Cruiser, 4Runner, Sequoia, and Land Cruiser.

If you'd like to learn more about one or more of Toyota's award-winning vehicles, please contact Lakeland Toyota in Sheboygan, WI.  Located at 4000 N. Frontage Rd, we're happy to share specs or set up a test drive.

Forget about a Town and Country, Quest or Grand Caravan. The Toyota Sienna was named Best Minivan of 2011 currently on the market by the editors at Edmunds' Inside Line.

To earn this industry-acclaimed distinction, the 2011 Toyota Sienna had to beat out all other competing minivans in seven key areas. The key areas in which the vehicles were evaluated and their respective weight on the overall score of 100 include: performance (10%), key feature content (20%), as-tested price (20%), 29-point evaluation by the editors at Inside Line (25%), fuel consumptions 15%, the editors' personal rating (5%), and the editors' recommended rating (5%). With a total score of 76.2, the Sienna triumphed all.

"At the top, the 2011 Toyota Sienna SE is the all-rounder of Toyota's minivan line - and arguably the whole minivan class," says the editors at Inside Line. "It's quick, too, for a minivan. Best of all, Toyota gives you a reasonable features list for $34,684. So, it's not a cheap minivan, but the Sienna SE is the best minivan?"1

Toyota Prius Family Expanding

Posted January 12, 2012

The Toyota Prius Family is growing - from one vehicle to an entire line up of hybrid cars. The all new 2011 Toyota Prius is on dealership lots now. It's the third generation of such a vehicle. But what else will Toyota bring to us? Three more Prius models are coming before the end of 2012.

Before we check in on the new models, we have the 10-year-old, already well known Prius. In its third generation, Prius comes with a 51 / 48 average miles per gallon rating. The vehicle also starts at only $22,500 - a very fantastic price for a hybrid car.

Now for the newbies. First up, Toyota will begin sales of the Prius V - a "minivan" sized MPV (Multi-person Vehicle) that is just as much hybrid as its smaller counterpart. The car was originally teased on a billboard outside Las Vegas during last year's SEMA auto show.

Second, the Honda CR-Z Sports Hybrid competition - Toyota's Prius C Concept, coming our way in early 2012. This vehicle is a smaller, eco-friendly solution for the urban driver. The car is currently a smaller 4-door, but may come out with a coupe version.

Third, coming out in late 2012, is the highly anticipated Plug-in Prius. Already a big get overseas, the all-electric rechargeable Prius will undoubtedly roll in and out of dealership lots with the quickness of a bunny.

New Prius v and Prius c Concept Make Debut

Posted January 12, 2012

  •    Prius v fits the lifestyle of young, active families
  •    Prius c Concept an inspiration for future small, entry hybrid
  •    Plug-in to arrive in the first half of 2012

DETROIT (Jan. 10, 2011) - Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., unveiled the Prius family of vehicles today at the 2011 North American International Auto Show.  In addition to the current third-generation Prius and Prius Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle (PHV), the new Prius v midsize hybrid-electric vehicle and the Prius c Concept vehicle joined the iconic hybrid brand, broadening the appeal of Prius to all ages and lifestyles.

With the expansion of the Prius family, a new evolution of vehicles will further increase the acceptance of hybrids with Prius' same core values of high fuel economy, low emissions, proven technology and environmental stewardship.

"This is no ordinary family.  It's a modern family with a Prius for everyone," said Bob Carter, Toyota Division group vice president and general manager.  "The Prius v is an all-new dedicated hybrid vehicle, and all future Prius family members will be as well.  They will all share common Prius attributes but will be unique, with a special appeal to different buyers."

The Prius midsize liftback has accounted for more than 955,000 sales in the U.S. since it was introduced in 2000.  The third-generation Prius, which reached dealerships in June 2009, has continued the hybrid's heritage of exceptional fuel economy and low emissions, while becoming the third-best selling Toyota passenger car in the U.S.

The Prius has also been a technological flagship vehicle, offering new features to the Toyota brand like Touch Tracer Display, Solar Powered ventilation, Smart Key System with Push Button Start, Lane Keep Assist, an Advanced Parking Guidance System and LED headlamps.

Prius v: "Versatility" for Young, Active Families
The new Prius v, with "v"  expressing the vehicle's versatility, will meet the needs of growing families with active lifestyles while providing the same attributes traditionally found in the Prius DNA.  It will share the current generation Prius' platform and Hybrid Synergy Drive technology.  Featuring a compact exterior yet spacious interior, the Prius v will feature over 50-percent more interior cargo space than the current Prius.

With a balance between outstanding spaciousness, refined style, and smooth aerodynamics, Prius v has a low 0.29 coefficient of drag, which does not inhibit the vehicle's convenient packaging.  It is a new vehicle designed from the ground up, with a shape that evolved from Prius rather than being an elongated version.

The exterior styling is sleek, rounded and bold, with an extended roofline that allows the vehicle to retain the triangular silhouette symbolic of Prius.  The trapezoidal-shaped front features sharp-edged headlamps, wind-slipping aero corners for improved aerodynamics and an enlarged under grille, which all help create a unique design evolving from the current Prius.  Prius v's rear styling is highlighted by a refined backdoor panel, intricate combination taillights and a specially designed roof spoiler that improves air flow.

Inside, the Prius v emphasizes overall proportion with spaciousness and flexibility for active families.  Comfortable interior space and good visibility has been assisted by a high seating position, ample head room, and an impressive 38-inch couple distance, providing generous rear legroom.  A low, wide-opening rear hatch reveals 34.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, making it the most spacious dedicated hybrid vehicle on the market and better than some compact SUVs.

Comfortable seating for five is specifically designed for young families.  Sliding second row seats allow for easier ingress and egress and rear-storage flexibility, with a 45-degree recline for greater comfort.  The 60/40 split, folding rear seats present four different seat arrangements that provide excellent usability for passengers and luggage, while a fold-flat front-passenger seat allows for extremely long cargo.

Also available, and a Toyota-first, is a resin Panoramic View moonroof with power retractable sun shades that provides an open atmosphere in the cabin with a 40-percent reduction in weight as compared to conventional glass roofs of the same size, and excellent heat insulation performance.

Up front, instrument-panel controls, including a single-dial air-conditioning control and a center-mounted digital combination meter, provide an advanced look and user-friendly command.  The driving controls - including the Push Button Start, parking switch, electronic shift lever, and driving mode selection - are distinguished by silver trim.

Despite the spaciousness of a family friendly midsize vehicle, the Prius v will deliver estimated EPA fuel economy ratings of 42 mpg city, 38 mpg highway and 40 mpg combined, the best fuel economy ratings of any SUV, crossover, or wagon on the market.  It will also emit 66-percent fewer smog-forming emissions than the average new vehicle.

Like the current generation Prius, the Prius v is a showcase of technology that will include many of the same standard features.  Four driving modes (Normal, Power, Eco and EV) satisfy a variety of road conditions and driver preferences.  A Smart Key System with Push Button Start, an electronic shift lever, Hill Start Assist Control (HAC), and a back-up camera are standard.  Available options include energy-efficient LED headlamps, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with a Pre-Collision System (PCS), and Advanced Parking Guidance System.

For a high level of safety, there are seven airbags, a high-strength cabin and an energy-absorbing body structure with impact beams, cross members and leg absorption pads.  New driver and front-passenger seat design helps lessen possible whiplash injury during a collision.

Like all Toyota models, the Prius v will feature Toyota's Star Safety System? standard, which includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist.  It also features the standard Smart Stop Technology brake-override system.

Prius v will be one of the first Toyotas with the Entune? multimedia system.  For the first time ever in an automobile, this innovative new system leverages the mobile phone to provide a richer in-vehicle experience with fully integrated and wireless upgradeable navigation, entertainment and information services.

Toyota Entune debuts the first-ever support for engaging mobile apps, such as Bing, OpenTable,  and movietickets.com,  along with accessing useful travel-related services, such as live weather, traffic, fuel information (location and price), stocks, news and sports.

Toyota Entune brings the largest selection of music options available to a vehicle, including iheartradio's 750+ stations, Pandora's personalized music, the driver's personal songs from portable media players and iPods (via USB or Bluetooth audio streaming), and more than 170 stations from XM satellite radio.

Featuring a best-in-class, advanced conversational voice recognition system that helps the driver to stay focused on the road, Toyota Entune eliminates the need to memorize thousands of voice commands and helps reduce driver distraction.

Entune will also allow for audio read-back and replay capabilities for text messages, with the ability to respond by pre-set "Quick Reply Messages."

Prius v will combine Entune with a standard Display Audio system rich with dynamic entertainment and communication features.  The system will include HD Radio with iTunes tagging for future purchase; XM radio, weather, sports, stocks and local fuel pricing; Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless audio; and full iPod integration including music and video.

A new evolution in hybrid vehicles with excellent cargo space and Prius' heritage of environmental performance and fuel economy, the 2012 Prius v will go on sale in late summer 2011.

Prius c Concept: Small "city"-centric Hybrid Vehicle
While the current Prius has ushered hybrid technology into the mainstream, and the Prius v will provide the additional room and versatility for active families, compact shoppers are interested in a smaller hybrid at an entry price point and with superior fuel economy.  The Prius c Concept, with c representing a "city"-centric vehicle, will appeal to young singles and couples who want an eco-sensitive, high-mileage, fun-to-drive Prius.

This dynamic vehicle with urban appeal will pursue outstanding fuel efficiency in a compact package, while also providing a surprisingly spacious interior.  It will include many advanced technology features, including some offered on the current Prius.

Prius c Concept is the inspiration for an additional Prius family member that will come to market in the first half of 2012 as the most value-oriented hybrid in the U.S. market with the highest mileage of any "cordless" hybrid.

Prius Plug-In Vehicle: the Best of Both Worlds
Since its initial launch 10 years ago, one of the Prius' main efficiencies has been a hybrid system with its own on-board recharging system that never needed to be plugged in to take people where they wanted to go.  With the addition of new technology and shifts in the market, the Prius Plug-in Hybrid is the family member that represents the best of both worlds - the superior fuel economy of the Prius with added EV driving capability.

Depending on driving conditions, Prius Plug-in can be driven approximately 13 miles on battery power at speeds up to 60 mph.  Its compact Lithium-ion battery provides less weight and a quicker recharging time, taking three hours on 110 volts and 1.7 hours on 220 volts.  It can be "topped off" anytime with a convenient short charge.

After the EV power is depleted, the Plug-in performs like an economical third-generation Prius, the most fuel efficient midsize hybrid vehicle in America.  Unlike pure EVs, it will be a seamless transition for consumers, with the only difference from a regular Prius is that it can be plugged in at convenient intervals.

Currently, more than 150 Lithium-ion-battery powered Prius Plug-ins are part of a demonstration program in several U.S. cities.  The program's goal is to demonstrate plug-in technology, educate and inform the public, evaluate performance, and better understand the benefits to future customers.  This will help pave the way for an on-sale target in the first half of 2012.

The Plug-in will be initially offered in 14 West and East Coast states (Arizona, California, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, Virginia and New Hampshire) where nearly 60 percent of all Prius models are currently sold. Availability in all remaining states will be a year later.

When it comes to market, the Prius Plug-in will represent the most eco-sensitive and advanced choice within the Prius brand of products.

Will a Toyota Prius Pickup Truck be Next?

Posted January 12, 2012

a406d6590a0d02b701eb7d250e12010a.jpgRecent speculation on the internet just prior to the 2011 North American International Auto indicates that Toyota may add a Prius hybrid pickup truck to their new line of Prius Family vehicles.

Toyota is considering reviving the "Advanced Breakthrough Aero Truck" hybrid pickup concept (pictured above). This vehicle was originally unveiled three years ago, also at the NAIAS.  Toyota has been planning an onslaught of Prius models for the next several years, including a "MPV" (the foreign equivalent of a minivan), a sporty coupe and now, apparently, a pickup truck.

The Japanese auto maker hopes to combine their most aerodynamic vehicle with one of history's less than speedy rides, in order to create a truck that is great on gas, cuts through the wind like a hot knife through butter, and can deliver a large payload.

The A-BAT concept explored the possibilities of making a pickup more efficient, along with the addition of a hybrid drivetrain, unibody construction and compact shape. Fuel efficient versions of Toyota's Tacoma and Tundra pickups are available, but none which will receive the miles per gallon a Prius truck can.

If built, the A-BAT could join the Prius five-door and the new MPV variant - as well as a potential production version of the Prius C concept just unveiled at Cobo Hall - in the rapidly expanding Prius line-up.
